St. Matthew's is Getting Ready for our Sixtieth!

   The 60th Committee is pleased to announce that with the funds made from the Parking Lot Sale and several gifts we have met a quarter of our goal! The cabinetry for the school/Sunday School updates is well underway; plans and bids for the kitchen work are in process, as is the organ update. It is 21 years since I came before the congregation to announce the signing of a contract to purchase our incredible pipe organ. At that time the organ Committee was working with the Van Zoren Organ Co., which was being bought out by Rogers’ Organs. Rogers was just beginning to incorporate computer components into its organs and was using Motorola motherboards. Well...the Motorola electronics don’t last. And...with repair after repair the electronics in our organ still do not perform as they should. In the meantime, Rogers was bought out by a Japanese interest which is embarrassed by the performance of the Motorola motherboards and wants them all back.

   So Dr. Robt. Tall from Tall & Assoc., who has worked so faithfully with St. Matthew’s, has made us an offer the council couldn’t refuse. He will donate a brand new console to be placed in the front of the sanctuary and we will give up both old consoles and will pay $20,000 to have the pipes “revoiced.” This investment will roughly raise the value of our organ from $750,000 to $1,000,000. The installation and revoicing will take place prior to our 60th celebration on September 22/23rd. The new highly updated console will be dedicated to the memory of both Clarence Anderson and Franz Gorges. Dr. Tall has agreed to play the formal dedication concert on September 22 prior to our banquet.

   The Anniversary Committee is announcing this project as a part of our overall 60th goal of $60,000. Have YOU made your contribution to the 60th project? March 25th, the final Saturday of March, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM was the time. St. Matthew's was the place. And all of us were invited! We came to find some treasures that someone else had to part with to make room. Furniture, clothing, housewares, books, lawn tools--all makes and models. (click on image for larger)
